About the 12th Annual AIDS Benefit
Now in its 12th year, what started out in 1998 as a group of friends gathering together in Riis Park Beach to mourn the loss of beloved friend and up-and-coming fashion/ costume designer Peter Roncone to an AIDS related illness, has transformed into one of the most well celebrated pageants of illusion that New York City has to offer. For years, it was considered a staple in the Queens, New York community as a sold-out affair that year after year promised its devoted followers a night of fun, entertainment, enchantment and magic, and all the while paying homage to all those whom have lost their lives to the disease.
This year, for the very first time in its history, the event will take place live in Manhattan at the Times Square Arts Center under the bright lights of 42nd street. While the central theme of the Benefit has always been safer sex education to both heterosexuals and homosexuals alike, each year the Benefit also shares an artistic theme that brings all elements of the production together. Miss Riis Park Universe
Miss Riis Park Universe, the annual HIV/AIDS fundraiser pageant brought to you by Poder de Todos Unidos (PDTU), was born of a simple idea: to help spread awareness about the disease, and to give back to community social welfare programs that directly offer support to those who are most at risk. The pageant is truly one of a kind. It brings together people of all walks of life for one night of enchantment.
Every year, a group of men compete for the top prize; Ours is a beauty pageant with a twist!
What Can I Expect as a Contestant?
Lights, places...let the show begin! Right from the start, contestants will be immersed in a competitive, yet friendly environment where each candidate will be challenged and inspired to be at their creative best. From the elaborate national costumes and intricately designed dance show routines, to the stunningly beautiful evening gowns, each segment of the competition will provide the participant with an opportunity to impress the diverse judges on the panel and the fun-loving crowd. Like the Miss Universe pageant, our contestants will also be competing and representing a national country. Past pageant winners include Dominican Republic, Colombia and Puerto Rico.
In accordance with the values and tradition of educating the public for which the contest stands for, all contestants in the pageant must complete an HIV/AIDS seminar and a certificate will be issued to each candidate upon successful completion of the training. Additionally, the winner of the pageant will receive a cash award and tons of fabulous prizes!!
Runner-up contestants will receive a goody bag filled with fun stuff for their participation in the show. There are no losers in this event. When we come together as a community to raise awareness about this very serious disease, we’re all winners!!

How Can I Become a Sponsor?
If you are interesting in becoming a sponsor for this sold out event, please email lvalmonte@msn.com for our sponsor kit. We have different levels of sponsorship to suit your business needs. You can also purchase a tax-exempt advertising space in our Show Bill that will be distributed on the night of the big event. Additionally, kiosk registration is now open.
